Pupil Voice

At Lisneal, pupil voice is at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to have a well-established School Council that empowers students to share their ideas, express their opinions, and actively shape their learning environment. Through regular meetings, pupils contribute to meaningful discussions about how they learn best and what improvements they would like to see in school life.

Many of their suggestions have led to real change. Recent initiatives such as the introduction of an inclusive summer uniform, new water fountains, and vibrant painted areas around the school originated from council meetings and were developed into action plans presented to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

Pupil feedback is also embedded across the curriculum. Students are regularly invited to reflect on their learning experiences in each subject, and we conduct an annual whole-school survey to gather their views on a wide range of topics from feeling safe in school to enjoyment in lessons. These insights play a vital role in shaping future planning and development.

Our School Council also leads on charitable initiatives, raising funds for a variety of causes of their choice including Action Mental Health, The Hope Centre, Chest Heart and Stroke, The Alzheimer’s Society, and The Rainbow Centre, among others.

In addition, we have a dedicated Pupil Senior Leadership Team made up of students who have made outstanding contributions to school life. These pupils hold key responsibilities, meet regularly to discuss school matters, and work closely with the Principal and staff to support the smooth running of the school and propose future developments.

We are also proud to be working towards becoming a UNICEF Rights Respecting School, currently progressing through the Bronze Award stage, further reinforcing our commitment to listening to and respecting the voices of our pupils.

Our commitment to pupil leadership extends beyond the School Council and Senior Leadership Team. We regularly host student-led workshops across year groups, focusing on current and topical issues that matter to our pupils and wider school community. These sessions are designed to educate, inform, and spark discussion, while also gathering pupil perspectives to help shape school policies. Most recently, pupils have led impactful workshops on the use of verbal abuse in schools and the dangers of vaping, encouraging open dialogue and promoting a safer, more respectful school environment. These initiatives not only raise awareness but also ensure that pupil voices are central to our decision-making processes.
