NI COMMISSIONER FOR CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE

On Thursday we welcomed the Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People into school  to raise awareness of the work she carries out through NICCY. After addressing Year 8 on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child and how the articles within it affect their lives, she answered the many questions addressed to her by our Student Council. The Commissioner even had the opportunity to take part in a photograph with Year 8 doing the ‘dab’.  The Commissioner spent time discussing her task of promoting and safeguarding the rights of all children and young people in Northern Ireland and her priorities which are to address issues mental health, child poverty and education inequalities as well as embedding children rights across all government systems and processes. This was a thoroughly enjoyable event and was another opportunity to learn valuable lessons from the leaders who work to keep children safe.
