Extended Schools


The key aim of the Extended Schools Programme is “to reduce underachievement and improve the life chances of children and young people by enhancing their educational development and fostering health, well-being and social inclusion through the integrated delivery of the support and services necessary to ensure every child has the best start in life”

All the programmes funded through Extended Schools report under five high level outcomes:

  • Being Healthy
  • Enjoying Learning and Achieving
  • Living in Safety and with Stability
  • Enjoying Economic and Environmental Well-Being
  • Contributing Positively to Community and Society

All Extended Schools activities must support the target areas of the School Development Plan, such as literacy, numeracy, raising standards and reaching parents. All programmes must run outside curriculum time, at break or lunch, before or after school or in an evening or during holidays.
