DARREN CAMPBELL YR 12

THAT’S OUR BOY, DARREN!
We are delighted to have received more fabulous feedback on yet another Year 12 pupil that has made a positive and lasting impression on a local employer, whilst on Work Experience Placement. This time it is Darren Campbell who has made us all proud at #TeamLisneal and is the talk of our school today. We are so chuffed with his glowing report that we want to share it with his friends, family, peers and members of the local community:

Reference your student Darren Campbell – 5 DAY placement from Monday 6th until Friday 10th March 2017.

I have been accepting students from around the North West since the 1980’s, I couldn’t even remember the number or the names. I can tell you this has now changed. Your student Darren, was the best we have ever received!!

This young man was very enthusiastic, mannerly, and helpful, early every day, offered to stay late if needed and even offered to work Saturdays if required.

I was so impressed with Darren, “I told him when he finishes college, to contact ourselves with a view to future employment”.

It is a relief to know there are still young people like Darren in our colleges!

Thanking you,
Gordon Chambers
W. & J. Chambers.

YR 8 PUPILS OF THE MONTH

Pictured are our Yr8 PUPILS OF THE MONTH for February. As a reward for this excellent achievement their Head of Year took them to McDonalds for their lunch, along with their class captains and prefects. Very well done to you all.

CAMHS GUEST SPEAKER

This afternoon we welcomed guest speaker, Shaun Roddy from CAMHS (Child & Adolescence Mental Health Services), into our school to speak to our Yr12 pupils about the impact that Drugs and Alcohol can have on Mental Health. He was incredibly knowledgable about the need to protect mental health in adolescence and we want to thank him for sharing this important message with our pupils. This was a fantastic close to Health Promotion Week at #TeamLisneal.

YR8 CLAY MODELLING IN ART

What a way to spend a Friday afternoon. Our Yr8 pupils just loved working with Clay in their Art lesson earlier on today and Mrs McCorkell was full of praise for the artistic skills that they were able to showcase in this practical lesson. The TALENT of our pupils never ceases to amaze us at #TeamLisneal

EMOTIONAL HEALTH TALK

Day 3 of Health Promotion Week at our school. This afternoon we welcomed Conor McCafferty from ZEST into school to speak to our senior pupils about their ‘Emotional Health and Wellbeing’. We wish to thank him for taking the time to share his expertise with our pupils who are now much more in tune with how they can manage their thoughts and feelings. LIKE NO OTHER.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

This morning a group of Yr12 girls from Lisneal had the opportunity to listen to inspirational stories from successful local women. Accountants, teachers, solicitors and business owners all shared their stories, talking about their journey towards success and the need for perseverance and determination. Many thanks to St. Cecelia’s for the invitation and warm welcome that they offered our pupils and also to Deborah O’Donnell for organising this uplifting event.

HEALTH PROMOTION WEEK DAY 2

St. John’s Ambulance were with us today, delivering ‘First Aid Health and Safety Training’ to our Yr11 pupils. This course covered first aid basics such as CPR, choking and bleeding, allowing pupils the chance to learn vital life saving skills by improving their knowledge and confidence. A special word of thanks goes to Tom, Peter, Judith and Katie from St. John’s for sharing their expertise with our pupils on ‘Day 2 of our Health Promotion Week’.

HEALTH PROMOTION WEEK DAY 1

On Monday we welcomed Sandra Semple into school to deliver a ‘Skin Cancer Awareness’ talk to Sixth Form pupils. The girls were suprised to learn about the dangers of using sun beds and the risks that come with overexposure of skin to the sun. Many thanks to Susan for raising awareness of this health issue – a great start to HEALTH PROMOTION WEEK at Lisneal College.

KERRI-LYNN COOKE

During the week Mr Allen received this letter praising our amazing pupil Kerri-Lynn. We are just so proud of her and want to share it with you.

The letter stated:

“I would like to thank you for allowing your pupil, Kerri-Lynn Cooke, to attend Foyle Women’s Information Network’s book launch on March 1st 2017. Kerri-Lynn spoke extremely well at the event and was a credit to her school. We very much appreciated having her attend”.

Kerri-Lynn addressed the large audience and spoke with real confidence- something that many adults find difficult. Well done Kerri-Lynn on your achievement. #aspiration
