YR 12 PARENT/TEACHER MEETINGS

Our Year 12 Parent/Teacher Meetings will be held on Thursday 10th November from 5.30pm until 7.30pm. We look forward to welcoming those parents into school so please make a note of this important date.

YR 8 TECHNOLOGY PROJECTS

Two of our Year 8 classes completed their desk tidy projects this week. The project requires pupils to accurately measure, mark out, cut and join pieces of wood to manufacture a top quality functional product. A laser cutter was also used to inscribe a name or message on the side (very fancy). The pupils loved the project and we were able to identify quite a number of very talented boys and girls. TEAM LISNEAL loves technology.

CCEA TOP CANDIDATES

The official list of CCEA top candidates highlights the fantastic performance of Lauren, Emma and Lisa in the A Level Applied Business qualification. Well done to the Lisneal College girls and our Business Studies department.

GCSE HISTORY TRIP

History is the Future! Pupils from the GCSE History classes attended an inspiring digital history day organised by the Nerve Centre. Students were given the opportunity to explore how technology can help them learn about history. Pupils saw how we can digitise and help conserve the past, how realistic models can be created both online and for 3D printing. They were also given the opportunity to explore WWI trenches using Virtual Reality technology. Many thanks to Miss Bell and the Nerve Centre for this fantastic opportunity.

ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS DAY

This week our 6th Form pupils took part in a Road Safety Awareness day held in Letterkenny. The event reinforces the importance of save driving- particularly amongst 17-25 year olds. The event made a real impression on the pupils and we hope our roads become safer for everyone in the future. Thanks to Mr White for organising and attending the event.

FATHER MANINGI

On Wednesday everyone at Lisneal was delighted to welcome back our old friend Father Maningi to school. Father Maningi and CIC worker Shania talked to 11B1 about his life in Africa and the excellent work being done by Children in Crossfire to help support people in areas of extreme poverty. As usual Father Maningi was so impressed with our amazing pupils. Many thanks to Ms Garvin for organising this visit for our pupils.

VISITS TO STEM BUSINESSES

As part of Ada Lovelace Day earlier this week, a number of our pupils visited STEM businesses to pay homage to the woman who is widely recognised as the first computer coder. The students focused on STEM careers with Fleming Agri-Products, Heron Bros and Crime Scene Investigation. Our  pupils adorned hard hats and safety glasses during visits that introduced them to working in construction, manufacturing and science. Many thanks to SEC connections for helping to organise this experience.

ANTI BULLYING AMBASSADOR TRAINING

Anti Bullying Ambassador training was in full flight yesterday at the TEAM LISNEAL headquarters. Pupils and staff from local primary and secondary schools participated, taking an active stand against bullying. Everyone was creating and sharing positive action against negative behaviour. Lisneal are so proud to have so many enthusuastic pupils leading by example. Watch this space for more exciting iniatives devised by our young ABA’s.

IT WAS ALL GO IN SCHOOL TODAY

What a day we had today! Firstly we hosted the Diana Award Anti-Bullying Ambassador Training session for ambassadors from across 12 different primary and post primary schools. Then we were joined by the Minister for Education who came to see the work being done at Lisneal College to combat bullying. It was a brilliant day for everyone involved. As you can see the Minister got stuck right in and had a laugh with the students.
