TEAM LISNEAL RUNNING CLUB

The wind and rain didn’t deter our hardy runners from embarking on the Couch to 5k journey on Thursday evening. Over 20 founding members signed up to the #TeamLisneal Running Club which will meet at our school every Thursday at 7pm. Everyone completed the course whilst having a bit of crack along the way. See you all next week!

YR13 ENGINEERING TRIP

The year 13 BTEC Level 3 Engineering class had a successful trip to Wrightbus in Ballymena. The students enjoyed the experience and saw at first hand how buses, such as the London Routemaster, are manufactured. The students witnessed engineering of the highest quality they also got to meet the owner of the company Dr William Wright CBE.

BOOK DRIVE

As part of our focus on Literacy we are trying to collect as many books as possible for our Accelerated Reader programme. This is an excellent way of stretching and challenging every young person to build upon and develop personal literacy skills. Please support us by donating new or gently used books by 30th September and help us make underachievement a thing of the past!

ANNUAL PRIZE DISTRIBUTION

Congratulations to all of our prize winners from the Annual Prize Distribution held at Lisneal on Thursday evening. Thanks to everyone who joined us for our special night of celebration. We hope you enjoyed the night as much as we did. Special thanks goes to guest speaker Vincent Lusby for both his time and words of inspiration.

The ‘Derry News’ will publish a range of beautiful pictures this Thursday. Many thanks to Jim McCafferty for such brilliant photos.

EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES

European Day of Languages was celebrated in style at Lisneal on Friday. We started the day off with a free European Breakfast for all pupils and staff in Berta’s Bistro. The Year 8 pupils then took part in a House Quiz and were joined by pupils from St. Mary’s and St. Cecilia’s. At lunchtime Berta’s Bistro served up an array of European favourites and samples of traditional French and Spanish food were given out. Finally the pupils were treated to a wonderful display of Flamenco dancing by Solas Flamenco. Another wonderful experience for our pupils.

AMAZING THE SPACE

Today was the United Nations International Day of Peace and our pupils attended the Amazing the Space events at the Eikon Centre and St. Mary’s College. Our pupils; Megan, Emily, Emma and Hannah attended to perform their Scottish dancing along with the St. Mary’s Irish dancers. This is just another example of just how amazing and inspiring we are when our different cultures come together to participate in shared education events.
